The exhibition CROMODINAMICA ESTETICA documents the long path of research by Stefano Tubaro, which is developed in series. On display are:
The Setbacks of the 1990s (in analogue);
the Counterfigures since 2002 (in analogue);
the Contractions, which date after 2010 (in digital);
the Photogenic Rooms and the Ossequios, the most recent works created during the pandemic.
Common denominator of the work of these thirty years is first of all the use of light, and in particular of colored light on architecture, objects and food; very significant is also the presence of silence, the need to make it visible by creating atmospheres in which time appears slowed down or suspended, never completely immobile.
Tubaro seeks to transform reality, creating new spaces that go beyond the limits of everyday life to express harmony, beauty and the desire for rebirth. For Tubaro, light/colour is not just perception, but a symbolic concept that reveals an inner and meditative time. Overcoming the limits of what is already given, the artist opens up new possibilities still unexplored.
SETBACKS
The artist explores urban reality through geometric perspectives that synthesize complex spatial relationships. With his gaze, he overcomes the objectivity of the present to grasp hidden assonances and dissonances. Lines, chiaroscuro and flashes of colour transform buildings and spaces into poetic and unnatural compositions. Walls, stones and unused sheds reveal themselves in a light, far from real time, transmitting a sense of becoming into forms deliberately unfinished.
CONTRACTIONS
The photographs in the series Contrazioni explore interiors of rural houses, abandoned psychiatric hospitals and bare industrial spaces. Open doors to deserted corridors reveal dim corners, unexplored paths that evoke curiosity and memory. Disused furniture bears traces of a common past. With beams of artificial light, Tubaro fuses different historical times, creating an alienating effect. There are rarely evanescent figures, pulsating self-portraits that inhabit an alternative inner space, linked to the unconscious. His poetics of becoming free desires in abstract visions, illuminated by conceptual lights.
PHOTOGENIC ROOMS
The Fotogenic Rooms by Tubaro, created in minimal sets in his studio, combine light, tones and colors with decorative elements, reflecting his interior. The accent and atmosphere lights guide perception, enhancing corners and distant borders. In a metaphysical atmosphere, flashes of light and flashes on the ceilings reveal the Ossetians, adding three-dimensionality and visual appeal.
OSSEQUI
Tubaro’s monochromatic works, different from his usual production, recover instruments and materials of the analog era. Magazines, slides, bowls and films, placed on photosensitive paper, create meaningful geometric compositions. With these works, the artist reevaluates precise analog actions, evoking them as a method also in the digital. The Ossequios represent a metamorphosis that intertwines past and present, creating new beauty in the Photogenic Rooms.
